Prompts

Cut a post down without losing the argument

For a chat window.

The prompt

Here is a draft post. Cut it to under 900 characters.

<draft>
{{DRAFT}}
</draft>

Rules:
- Keep the argument and the specifics. Cut the scaffolding.
- Delete any sentence that only announces what the next sentence will say.
- Keep concrete numbers and names; they are what makes it worth reading.
- Do not add anything that was not in the draft.
- Return only the cut version.

Why it works

Models are much better at cutting than at writing from nothing, and this is the prompt that pays for itself most often.

“Do not add anything that was not in the draft” is load-bearing. Without it, a shortening pass will quietly invent a statistic to replace a vague claim.
